Derby League Final – 27.11.11

A very enjoyable indoor derby league came to an exciting conclusion at Laurel View on Sunday 27th November.  Some rather large red baubles hanging from the keyhole jump did not manage to put the winning riders off their stride.

The 60cm got things off to a great start, with a jump off called for most of the competitors to decide the placings that really matter, especially for those who qualified for the league cash prize fund.  Brandy and Angie Thompson secured the top spot on both the day and in the league.  Second on the day was taken by Midnight Reflection and Karina McVeigh, but it was Mister Darcy and Amy Neill who went home with the winnings.

Speeding onto the 70cms, and a healthy number of clear rounds and four faulters meant that jump offs were called for, always a crowd pleaser, as it can be a bit dull if a competitor just wins the top spot outright.  So the competitors went all out in the jump off as they were all league qualifiers.  But in the end it was a clear round in the jump off that meant that Paula McIlwrath and Foxi went home with the most cash in the class.  Deborah Geddis and General Impression knocked one of their jump off fences taking them into second place in the class and the league.

Up the jumps went to 85cm, and not to be outdone practically all of the rosette winners had to earn their colours in the jump offs.  Laura Marrs and Ricochet went clear all the way to take home the top cash prize in the 85cm league, a wee collision with a jump off fence left Bianca McElnea and Rosso Tramonto in second league position.

Last and numerically least was the metre class, the only class of the day not to end in the excitement of a jump off.  But Bianca McElnea and Rosso Tramonto were no doubt pleased to score first in the metre adding to the kitty already claimed for their performance in the 85cm league. Amber Vick and Oscar had no need to despair as their second place in the league was also rewarded with a healthy cash prize.

That’s the last derby league of 2011 at Laurel View, but never fear there will be more next year.  To find out more about what is planned at Laurel View check out www.laurelview.co.uk or give the shop a ring on 028 9083 0649.
