Working Hunter League Final

A clock change caught a few folk out, but the ponies got things going at the final of the Winter Working Hunter League on 27th March at Laurel View.

Wearing the judge’s hat for the final of the ponies was Emma Fleming.  Emma’s first winner was Lauren Gordon on board Spud in the Newcomer Class, with Courtney Hamilton coming in second, but first in the League.

Smoothly onto the Starter Stakes and the title for the class and the League went to Ballylaughlin Lady Lynsey ridden by Sarah Britton, Courtney Hamilton and Jonty took in this class as well.

Novice Pony was next and Kelly McDonald rode Mavourneen Minstrel into first place, just in front of Claire Gilchrist riding Laurel View Admiral.

All too quickly the pony classes were over, but on the plus side this allowed the horse classes to get started on good time.  The judges for the Horse Classes were Sam and Shiela McAteer.  This experienced pair cast their eyes over the Warm up class first and declared Magic and Claire Robinson the class and league winner with Roccafella Rose ridden by Nuala McIvor a close second.

Moving on to the 4 year old class and it was Lakota Spirit and Emma Fleming that took the top spot with Nuala McIvor and Roccafella Rose in second, but first in the league.

Next into the arena to ride the well dressed flowing course was the Novice Horse Class.  1st place went to Patience and Michelle Strange, but it was Miriam Wright and The Castletown Lad who came second in the class that claimed the league prize.

Small Horses came next in the schedule and number one on the day and the league was Goodtime One ridden by Hannah Finlay, coming a few points behind in second place was Amy Neill riding Laurel View Bridget.

The Intermediate Horse class was the penultimate class of the day which was won by Kiltealy Flight, Lisa Dundee, with blue rosette going to Bianca McElnea and Rossotramonto, but the league 1st prize went to Rangehill Llwynog ridden by Simon Wylie.

Onto to the Open class to bring the day to a conclusion and Roundthorn Excel and Erin Faloona took the red rosette for the class with Rossotramonto ridden by Bianca McElnea taking the blue. But the league prize ended up going to Nuala McIvor and Song of Charm who came in third on the day.

Many thanks to all the judges who have given their time and expertise throughout the league;  not forgetting the scribes or the folk responsible for building the courses that have kept the competitors on their toes throughout the winter. Photographer Tom from Equi-Tog also deserves a mention for being there to catch the competitors in action.

This competition brought the Winter League to a fitting finale, but fear not it won’t be long before the Working Hunter fences will get an airing again for the Pre Balmoral Show planned for Sunday 8th May.  This competition for Horses and Ponies will include showing classes and ground conditions permitting will run on grass.  Schedules will be available shortly on www.laurelview.co.uk or from the office.  All questions and queries are welcome on 9083 0649.

Preceding the Pre Balmoral Show is the Mid Antrim Open 2 Phase on Saturday 16th April, with a Go As You Please over the cross country course the day after.

An Easter Show on Good Friday has a fun and varied schedule to coax competitors of all abilities into the saddle for a bit of a hop!

Redhalls Derby follows on Easter Monday, rounding up the competition schedule for April. Don’t forget to like Laurel View on facebook.com/Laurelview to keep up to date with all the latest info on happenings and activities at the Centre.
