Working Hunter 30.1.11
Laurel View were delighted to welcome a fantastic turnout at the second heat of their Winter Working Hunter League on 30th January.
Ponies started things off in the morning with Jacqui Lewis as their Judge. First up where the Newcomers jumping over a 50cm course. Jonty and Courtney Hamilton put on a lovely performance to take the 1st place over Lily and Lauren Court.
In the 60cm Starter Stakes, Sarah Britton provided her own competition with a clear round putting Sparky Two ahead of Ballylaughlin Lady Lynsey.
Novice Pony was next into the arena, with the course at 70cm. Megan Houston and Myles picked up a couple of extra points to earn them the red rosette with Sarah Britton and Sparky Two a close second.
Up to 80cm for the Intermediate Pony class in which Huffle Puff and Shauna O’Connell cleared the course and rode straight into first place.
No takers for the Open Pony class on this occasion, so onto the Horse classes with Mike Lewis taking over as Judge. The first class of the afternoon was the 70cm Warm Up Class which was very popular. Competitors had obviously got well warmed up in the second indoor as there were 13 clear rounds going into the ride out. In the end it was Cora ridden by Jackie Hanna that caught the judge’s eye, with Miakoda Dreamer and Stephanie Harper taking the second spot.
A fine array of horses competed in the 4 year old class with Erin Faloona on Orchard Affair taking home the red rosette, leaving Sky and Amy Torrens with the blue.
Course moves on up to 80cm for the Novice Horse class and another excellent entry jumping and on show before the judge. At the end of the adjudication Cora and Jackie Hanna took home her second 1st of the day, with Thunder and Marie Lagan coming 2nd.
The Small Horses were next in to tackle the 80cm course and the men took the honours in this class with Simon Wylie and Rangehill Llwynog taking 1st place and Nick Jordan and Cara in the 2nd spot.
Elaine Power and Wee Chief won the top Cob on the day, before the course went up to 90cms for the Intermediate Horse class. Taking the No.1 spot was Simon Wylie and Rangehill Llwynog with Nuala McIvor and Song of Charm coming in second.
Last but not least the Open Class tackled the metre course with the most points going to Victoria Clarke and Hightrees Lady after a clear round with Nuala McIvor and Song of Charm coming in second.
Catching the competitors in action while the light allowed it was the Equi-Tog photographer. Thanks to everyone who made the day possible, course building and arena teams, judges, scribes, staff and competitors from near and far.
An excellent days competition, hopefully it will be more of the same at the next league competition on the 27th February with the Ponies from 10am and the Horses from approximately 1.30pm.
The next leg of the Dressage League precedes the Working Hunter on Sunday 20th February, competitors wanting to work on their average score to be in with a chance of winning the fantastic weekend for two at the Dunadry should get their entries in by noon on Thursday 17th.
