Derby League (2 of 4) – 30.10.11

Witches peering round jumps didn’t cause too many problems for the competitors at the second leg of the Laurel View Indoor Derby League on the 30^th October.

First to find their way through the “spooky” course were the 60cm contestants, who all had an extra go in the jump off to decide between the clear rounds and the four faulters.  Going clear in the jump off as well, meant that it was down to time between Angie Thompson on Brandy and Susan Sloan on Tamney Blue.

The competitors in the seventies did not let their ghostly stalkers put them off their stride and again there was great excitement when it came down to jump offs to decide placings.  Showing a clean set of heels the whole way, in the fastest time was Niamh Martin and Taste the Rainbow, with Kathy Delargy and the Skylark Express running slightly slower into second place.

Up with the jumps and on with the excitement in the eighties, there wasn’t a clear round in sight, but victory in the end was claimed by Shauna O’Connell and Huffle Puff, with Paul Traynor and Longmore Lad taking second.

No jump offs were necessary in the metre class, but the riders earned their place all the same.  Taking home the red with a smashing clear round was Bailie and Erin Faloona, falling just behind with four faults was Ruth Irvine on Shantara’s Girl.

And so another excellent day of Derby fun came to a successful conclusion.  The league continues on Sunday 13^th November with the final on the 27^th November. Just one entry prior to the final qualifies the rider and horse/pony combo to compete for the prize fund.
